My father, Donald Brooks, was born and raised in Hardburly. My grandparents were Sylvia, an immigrant from Germany, and Ellen Brooks, who was also born and raised in Hardburly. Would love to hear from anyone who knew them. I have many fond memories of Hardburly.

Just browsing the net today researching articles related to crusing towns in Kentucky. I found this site and started browsing it! Neat site, I wish we had one like it here in our hometown. I made a friend from Hazard when I was in the Telecommunications Academy in 2001. He was in the police academy during the same time. His last name was Campbell. Anyone know an email address for him?? Thanks.

Class of 1973. M.C.Naper and HHS. I just found this site. Whew! It brings back lots of memories. My family moved back to Perry county from Florida when I was twelve. Derisively, my Robinson Elementary classmates referred to me as the SunShine Kid. I miss "Miss Pickle Baloney". You know who you are. I too love ol'Red Foleys Prayerful song. I grew up between Vicco to Glowmawr, Upper Second Creek and on the Troublesome near Jess Engles Bar. I climbed the hills and thought I was a Mountain Man, camped out on Chimney Rocks, Ol' Buster Smith (Sweet old wino) bought Orange Rock (Vodka) at Crutchers Liquor for me and my cousin John Dee. We cut locust posts hauled coal under peoples houses and dug ditches for spending money. I hated the coal business and its rape of the land. I was and am green. I watched our way of living be destroyed. I was a coward and rather than fight I left. I miss sorgum and baking soda and bisquits, chocholate and red eye gravy with porkchops like granny Stel used to make. Sitting on the two porch swings with Aunt Mae, her three daughters and cousin John and listen to sweet, poignant and crytal clear leads and harmonies intertwinning as only mountain folk are want to do when singing of the lord. They would laugh at my frog voice yet it was in good fun and they let me croak to my hearts content. I went through lpuberty, my first love lost Carolyn Johnson. Found an enduring & devoted companion in Debra Feltner Stacy. We had four children two girls and two boys. We are gypsys by choice and have seen a lot of country from New Hampshire, to Louisiana and Indiana to Texas. Been around the world once. But friends, family, acquaintances theres no place like home. I'll die missing what is no more except in the past and in my mind.Love Y'all Stan Stacy Jr.
