Couldn't log in in the "growing up in Wabaco" category. Just wanted to say that my brother, Vernon Statzer, and I were Wabaco kids. Our parents were Emmett and Mallie Statzer. We lived up the road from the Riverside cemetery. I will always remember the Mother Goose and the Pine Lodge grocery. Oh how many trips did I make to that grocery. We caught the school bus at the Colonial Club. I was in Wabaco about two weeks ago to put flowers on my Mom and Dad's grave. I looked up the road from the cemetery and saw the house we lived in for years. I wouldn't take anything for those memories. I have lived in Lexington for about 30 years, but Wabaco and Hazard hold a very special place in my heart.

Ken Barnett 21:34:51 12/10/2003

I would like any information about my uncles, Ruben Barnett and Ed Burchwell (or Birchwell) (Ed used to work at Engle's Funeral Home during the late 40's and 50's. They lived up one of the hollars in Lothaire. My dads name was Mitchell Barnett and is buried in the Cemetery in Lothaire. I only knew my paternal grandmother as "Ma Burchwell". I never got to see her due to circumstances beyond my control. My dad died around 1945.....I was only a year or so old and therefore have no memories of my dad. I lived with my grandparents Manuel and Martha Hoskins on Big Willard in Busy. I only got to see my uncle's Rube and Ed a few times. I don't have any pictures of my dad, Mitchel, and have never seen one. I have no idea what my father looked like. If anyone reading this has one it would be great to know what my dad looked like. Any information about any of these would be greatly appreciated. God bless you and and thank God for this web site that means so much to those of us who were born in Hazard and will always call Hazard Home..... not matter where we live.

Veronica (Birchfield) Bowman 19:20:09 12/10/2003

I was raised in Michigan, but was in Combs and Frogtown every year with my mother Tilda Birchfield to see my grandparents James and Mae Medley. After my grandfather died in 1973 I never went back until 2000. It was like going home again. Lots of things had changed but I still knew my way around. I lived in Airport Gardens during the flood of 1963. We lived above the grocery store there across from the hospital. I really enjoy going back to see some of my relatives. Love to look up info on your site. Keep up the good work. Veronica (Ruthie) Birchfield Bowman

I am doing research on my gr-gr-gr grandfather Braxton McQuinn who died in Perry Co.KY between 1831-1837, he is thought to be buried there. About that time he had a farm in an area he refered to as the Pan bowl, does anyone know where that area was located? Or per chance does anyone know of a headstone in an old Cemetery with the name of Braxton McQuinn on it?
