My wife is Vickie Baker of Liberty St. When her father Boyd Baker passed away, She wrote a Poem for Him and put it in his Shirt Pocket, Below is the Poem She Wrote: Dear God, Today I say good-bye to a very good manHelp him and guide him as much as you can.He was a hard working man, and always on his feetHe would always stand up and offer you his seat.Know one can say that he didnít give it his allHe was always there for us children standing tall.I remember those penny loafer shoes, white dress shirts, and black slacksAll the hard work he done for others, he should have had a wall full of plaques. He would give you his last dollar, and make sure you were always feedHe would never turn away a friend, and he made sure you had a good bed.As the years went past, he stayed at home with mom and all of usEach day he made sure we had breakfast and clean shoes, then off to the bus.He loved to working in the garden, and grow fruit trees, and most of all play his banjoNow it is time for him to play his banjo for you and the angles, so I must let him go.Say hello to grandma, and remember youíre not just my dad, but also my best friendI will always look for you in the clouds, and listen for you in the wind.Your oldest daughterVickie Carol

This is a great web site! I wish we had one like it in Chattanooga. I am looking for information on the death of Stephan N Trent who was killed in a traffic accident sometime last year or this year. He was a dear friend.

Wonderful web site!Really enjoying the pictures and comments.I lived on Lyttle blvd in Hazard from 1955 to 1959 and met a lot of friends.I was with the Miners Memorial Hosp. andin the Civil Air Patrol. Dr. Hahn gave me flying lessons and I soloed just before the 1957 flood. Have many photos of the flood taken from the roof of the hospital if anyone is interested. I swapped pictures with Hal Cooner and have a lot of his pictures taken in downtown Hazard.

This is the best hometown website on the internet. I lived in Hazard from 1939 until 1948. None of the places where I have lived since then are covered this well on the web. I had a lot of friends including Roscoe Shackelford, Billy Gibson, James Waldeck, George "Tid" Mitchell, Dick McIntire, Jack Mullins, and many others. I wonder where they all wound up.

JOB well done. Yes, i agree the beauitful hills if Eastern Kentucky,is a sight in itself. My parents are Elbert Huff &Telvis "Stidham" Huff, one brother-Curt Huff, 1 sister-Verlie.Dad was a coal miner for many many years, at Blue Diamond, Debbie coal company, and many many more mines my daddy worked in. Our family moved toIndiana in 1963, but for sure like the saying goes, "there is no place like home, and you can take us out of Kentucky, but you can't take Kentucky out of us".I am very proud of my childhood,at Krypton, those muntains always will stay with me, I miss KENTUCKY very much.Kentucky is the next closest to Heaven. God Bless all of the people down there , my thoughts and prayers are with you. LOVE TO YOUO ALL.Would love to hear from any friends, relatives, will answer back. Aslo realated to Howards,Couches,Stidhams,Collins,Colwell, To ALL TAKE CARE, THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU ALWAYS.WISHING I WAS BACK HOME. I MISS THOSE MONTAINS AND THE GOOD OLE COUNTRY AIR. BUT DO HAVE LOTS OF MEMORIES , AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I WILL ALWAYS HAVE.TAKE CAREONE THING THAT I SURE CAN SAY, "I STAND AND TALL AND PROUD, WHEN I SAY IT. "I AM PROUND TO BE A COLD MINER'SDAUGHTER. BYE FOR NOW
