Howard Murrill 09:08:03 1/09/2003

I lived in Hazard during World War II. We lived across Cedar Street from the Catholic Church. My father ran a store down on Main Street. Would like to make contact with people who lived in the Cedar Street neighborhood at the same time. We moved to Neon, over in Letcher County, in 1948, and then to Florida. You might remember my sisters, Maxine and Bunny.

Gerald Lazzaro 15:05:19 1/04/2003

Thank you for a great web site. My grandfather, Lorenzo Bongiovanni, and step-grandfather, Joseph Lazzaro, were miners in Perry County in the 1920s. My aunt Angie Bongiovanni was born in First Creek in 1919. The family was living in McRoberts, Letcher County, when 1920 Census was taken. They moved to Michigan about 1924. Aunt Angie, who is 83, has no recollection of her birthplace. She wonders what life in First Creek was like in the early 1920s. Was First Creek basically a mining town? Was Blue Diamond the name of a mine in First Creek? Were there other mines in First Creek? Was there a Catholic Church in First Creek? She does not know where she was baptized. Her parents were divorced in 1922, and her mother would never discuss those last years of marriage in KY. We are doing research, and will visit Perry and Letcher counties in April 2003. Would appreciate comments from anyone with information about the 1920s in First Creek.
