A friend told me about this website. I grew up in Hazard, so I was excited to check things out. This is a very impressive site on Hazard and it's history. Several friends of mine have found this site to be great as well!

I am a native of Ky. and it wasn't easy growing up in Hazard. There were good times and then there were bad times as well. But I have realized that you have to take the goood with the bad to get by. Like one of my favorite country songs says "YOU'VE GOT TO STAND FOR SOMETHING OR YOU'LL FALL FOR ANYTHING".I have also learned to be my own man and not just a puppet on a string. I graduated from Hazard High School in 1996 and I would love to get in touch with some of my classmates from the class of '96.

I just found out about this website yesterday, and I have been online for hours reliving growing up in Hazard. I have found a picture of my father, Frank Baker, and classmates with whom I went to school, as well as many other people I knew growing up. Setting up this site took an incredible amount of work and research. The person/s responsible deserve a tremendous thank-you. You have made it possible foreveryone to stay in touch with their mountain roots, no matter where theymay be today. Many, many thanks!

Went to Walkertown Grade School, 1949-1957, Hazard High School, 1958-1961. Went to Ca. in 1961 and lived here since. Many good memories in those school days. Went to my 30th. High School Reunion and saw many of my old friends. I've kept up with Ky. basketball all these years and still root for them. Had a good friend named Don Winslow Combs, who used to live on Broadway in the 50's. I met up with him in San Diego, Ca. when he got out of the Navy and we teamed up together for several years. Lost touch of him. Does anyone know his disposition? Love to hear from anyone who remembers me either in grade school and/or high school. Those were the days!!

I was borned in Hardburly, Kentucky on a warm day on June 11th, 1933. My dads name was bro. Lige Williams who worked on the coal tipple for many years. I went to the grade there for 8 years and then on to Robinson High School at Ary Ky. I was in high school from 1947 to 1951. I have many great memories of school and friends and teachers. I also had a lot of friends fron Bulan, Ky. At present time my sister Geneva lives over by the goose. If any of my old classmates read this give me a yell. I left Perry county for 44 years, but now i am back in Ky for good. Perry county thanks for the memories. Robert Williams

Thanks for including "Jerry Leighton" in the old WKIC radio info and a photo of him. I worked with Jerry in Chicago radio in the late-1950's at WFMQ. He was doing a DJ show called "Datin' With Leighton" on WAAF and WFMQ. I still have a tape of his "ad libs" - I'd like to contact anyone who remembers Jerry especially from the Chicago radio days.If you have a tape of his on-air work, let's trade. Thanks for the reply.

I love this web site..I visit it almostevery day..I was born at Lothair..livedthere until I was five years old..movedto Walkertown..attended 1st semester ofmy first grade there..moved to Hazard...attended 2nd semester of first grade..Mrs.Bonnyman was my teacher..2nd grade,Miss Metcalf..3rd grade..Miss McGruder.4th grade..Mrs. Harris..5th grade MissHaywood...This was at Lower Broadway....Roy G. Eversole was principal then......I'll always be greatful for my teachers,my first five years of school..Oh I forgot to mention my very first teacher whoI loved very much at Walkertown..Mrs.RedGerald(maybe Jarold)...When we moved toHazard, I used to go home after school with her, to wait for my father to pickme up..She would let me help fill allthe little stockings with Christmas Candy..We had made the litte stockingsin school as our crafts..I'll never forher..She was so good to all of her classI'll always remember all of my teachers!I did't have any bad ones and I didn'tcause any trouble in school.I think thatwas due to my daddy..when he would takeus to school to register, the teacherswould ask if they had his permission tospank us if we needed it.He would reply"you certainly do have my permission andthey will get another one when they gethome".
