Hello, I went to M.C. Napier and graduated in 1979. I would like to get in touch with some of my old friends or classmates. I graduated from High School and left from here and went to Ohio to live. There I met the man I am married to now for 25 years. Had two kids one a boy that is 19 now and one a girl that is 22 now. I am hopeing to get back in touch with some friends or classmates. I have moved back to Hazard with my husband and family. We have been back for quite some time now. Just have not gotten in here to read or post something to this Guest Book. Now I am to see if I can possibly find anyone. If anyone knows of anyone who graduated in 79 or maybe a year before that. That might know me, or if anyone reads this that might know me. Please send me an email. I would really love to get reaquainted with and hear from people I used to know that I have lost touch with. Thanks Opal Chafin

I am looking for the daughter of Ella Horn. Her mother could have gone by Ella or El Davidson, and they lived in the area of Leatherwood, I think. Anyhow, Pauline was born on February 28, 1930, and lived with us and went to Hazard High School for two years. I lost contact with her and wonder if there is anyone out there who remembers her. Would love to find her if she is still living.Ida Lee HanselSpartanburg SC

Hi, Hazard!I'm trying to research my family. I remember as a child (1959-?) (now 50) going to see my grandpa Jim Lucas,a minister in a hard shell baptist church. My mother was Edna Lucas, (born 1927) she told me about her carrying him nails and lunch while he was building the church.I remember seeing him at the pulpit and washing the feet every sunday, the family graveyard was out back, I believe it was out a right side door, names were couch, combs, lucas. I had an aunt Pearl Craft, Aunt Cillar? Aunt Sally Combs,Aunt Cindy Brandt?had a daughter Cookie , Uncles were, Jim Lucas jr. Dewey (SKILLET)he worked the mines, I remember taking lunch to him with my mom, he was a very small man, as was my mother small, they were part cherokee, some of these relation I know where they lived when I was growing up , but the information that I am looking for is on my grand parents, and if the church is still there. someone told me that a dam went in the area of the church and they had to move it? I remember visiting with an aunt? on top of a mountain in a large white house with black shutters, they had a dark haired daughter and an uncle Lemule that used to sit with me under his big tree, with his 3 legged 1/2 blind dog, that he sold to me for a nickle. Thanks for being here to help with my research.

Born in Hazard, 1951, at Mount Mary Hospital. Lived in one of the coal camps (Carrs Fork). My grandfather(Garrett Combs) was killed working there. My father(Garrett Combs, Sr.) worked there at Carrs Fork and Defiance. He married Loretta Taylor, who had numerous brothers(Lee, Robert,Archie and Willie, who all worked in the mines). We lived next to Wren and Price Barrett (son Ronnie), Bill and Ruby Kirby (approx. 10 children), John Henry and Ruby(Bug) Engle (Billy, Bobby, Linda and Carolyn)in the Carrs Fork Coal Camp. We later moved to Indiana. Enjoyed the pictures.

I am searching for my WALKER "kin" and I know there are many in and around Perry County but I can find nothing on my Walkers who came from TN (possibly Rhea Co. Tn). My grandfather was Samuel Newton Walker; his father was William S. (Bill) Walker and his mother was Elsie (or Alsie)Jane Johnson; they married 9/23/1875 in Rhea Co. Tn. As far as I know my grandfather and his brother, Fred Walker who settled over at Grays Knob in Harlan County, Ky, are the only two that came to Hazard; According to the census records all of this family were born in Rhea County, Tn., which county seat is Dayton, TN.Can anyone one out there help me find any of my ancestors among the Walkers in Perry or surrounding areas?Much appreciation in advance. I commend the creators of this website. My father always wanted to take us kids back to Hazard to see where he was born. He never got to do it. Seeing these photos of the old days allows me to share his memories, now that he is gone. I'm looking for any information on my family that I can find. My grandmother was Martha Holland. She was born in 1880 and married a man name Donovan and had a daughter, Laura. Later she married John Napier and had the following children: Lucy, Maudie, Bige, John, Eddie, and Saline (my dad). My father was born in 1913. I believe that John Napier was a blacksmith and possibly known as "Arkansas John." His wife, my grandmother, moved all the kids to Tahlequah, Oklahoma sometime during WWI. I would really love to know my family's history. Please send me an e-mail to fill in the blanks. Thanks,Bette Napier Pritchett <bpritchett@austin.rr.com>Austin, Texas, USA - Tuesday, January 18, 2005

I really enjoyed visiting this web site. It really brings back some good memories. I grew up in Slemp,KY. My parents, Les and Della Cornett, still live there as does my sister Lona (Cornett) Polly. I am a 1969 graduate of Leatherwood High School (1st - 12th grade alumni). I married Larry D. Caudill, a 1964 Letcher High graduate, and we have lived out west ever since our July 20, 1969 wedding. I would enjoy hearing from any old friends that may also be visiting this site.Chris
