1981 Black Gold

Although the 1981 Black Gold Festival wasn't the first, it certainly was the biggest and best remembered. Never before or since has the area received such national attention as when the stars of the Dukes of Hazzard television show came to Hazard, Kentucky during the Black Gold Festival. Their appearance couldn't have come at a better time since their show was a top rated network program.
