In 1936,
two men made a bet on the presidential election between
Roosevelt and Al Landon. Republican Frank Duncan, standing with
the sunflower, bet on Landon. Democrat, Curt Campbell,
riding in the wheelbarrow, bet on FDR. Campbell, holding a
rooster, won the friendly bet and as a reward was wheeled from
the Carrs Fork Commissary to Vicco, a distance of three miles,
much to the delight of onlookers. |

At one time
Vicco, KY was a large coal mining camp. Probably everyone
in or around Vicco came to town to see a feat of strength when
this photo was taken in the late '30s. An out of towner
created a lot of excitement when he pulled a car down Main
Street with his teeth. |
