1989 Black Gold Festival

Singer - Mel McDaniel was one of the stars of the --- Black Gold Festival in Hazard. The Grand Ole Opry star has given Country Music fans 14 albums with hit after hit. "Have A Dream On Me", "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On", "Louisiana Saturday Night", "Stand Up", "Let It Roll" and "Stand On It" are just some of the many hits. The raspy- voiced country singer, songwriter and guitarist specializes in 'good ol' boys' Southern country anthems. He entered talent contest during high school; performed around Tulsa while holding down day jobs; worked for two years in Alaska, where he made big impact with his music and moved to Nashville in 1973 as a demo singer. He signed to a writer's contract and performed at the Holiday Inn lounge. He eventually joined Capitol in 1976 for some minor hits '76--80; a few made top 20; 'Louisiana Saturday Night.' His first number one song was 'Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On' and he scored a top ten song with 'Real Good Feel Good Song' in 1988. As a writer he had songs covered by Hoyt Axton, Commander Cody, the Poodles, Kenny Rogers, Dickey Lee and Conway Twitty. McDaniel joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1986.
